Sir,

House Guards, 28 November, 1844
I have had the hour to receive letter of the 28th Ultimo conveying your earnest recommendation and high commendation of Brevet Major Caine of the 26th Regiment, whose application for unattached Majority had already been before Field Marshal The Commander-in-Chief, and I have the satisfaction to acquaint you that in consideration of the long services of this officer, and the strong and honorable testimony you bear to his merits and exertions in the situation he has held at Hong Kong ever since that Island was taken possession of by the British Government, Major General Sir Henry Pottinger, G.
